Introduction of growth charts and growth monitoring is a minimum cost maximum benefit intervention in improving the health of our children and our people.
Govt. of India has, along with 121 countries signed the “rights of children” document. This document gives every Indian child a right to grow well. This is implemented only by monitoring growth with the help of growth charts.
To ensure universal growth monitoring, i.e., to ensure that every child’s growth is well monitored, we must take following step.
1. Publish a document called IAP Bhuvaneshwar document at the end of this workshop cum conference, that suggests concrete programme for growth monitoring of every Indian child.
Name pediatrician’s file with growth chart as passport to health.
2. Make growth chart as compulsory as ration card, birth certificate election card, 7/12 record of land.
3. Make growth charts filling compulsory part of school health examination, and every pediatrician’s every child examination..
Just as govt. spends to give photo i-card to every adult for election, govt. should spend money and give one growth chart to every child, to keep with him for 18 years.
4. All local self government bodies including every gram panchayat, zilla parishad, nagarparishad, corporation, have mother and child welfare funds. These can be used for growth charts.
5. Make every one aware that children make 49% of population. So half the government’s budget should be for children. Govt. should use this money to give one growth chart to every child per child. IAP growth chapter first and IAP general body later, on recommendation and resolution of growth chapter should pass a resolution. and make necessary recommendation to the government. And makea athes recommendataion knpwn to every Indian with the help of press,tv,radio, so that public opinion builds up and brings about necessary changes.
6.7. Currently ICDS uses growth charts. But these are kept with ICDS worker. And people do not know them. ICDS Anganwadi workers should be taught to teach their importance to parents.
Government should be asked to use latest IAP charts in place of the old charts they use.
Make sure that every one makes following lines by heart.
